Why Use Extra Virgin Coconut Oil?
Great Organic Coconut Oil
Let’s talk a bit about why it is important to choose extra virgin coconut oil instead of refined or processed coconut oils. Logic probably tells you it would be better to choose a food product that is less refined or extra virgin over products that have been refined or processed.
When coconut oil and other types of oils (olive, canola, soybean, corn or vegetable) have been refined, some of their natural qualities are either diminished or removed entirely. Therefore, you won’t get all the wonderful health benefits you can get if you consume oils that are cold pressed or expeller pressed. I’m not especially interested in the process of refining, as long as I know that my hard-earned dollars are going to products that will help my health. However, for those of you who are interested, I will probably add a blog in the future that does explain the refining and processing of coconut oil.
Coconut oil kills various viruses and bacteria, kills candida or yeast, gives quick energy and endurance, improves digestion, regulates insulin and blood sugar, reduces inflammation and helps heal tissue. It improves the function of your immune system, is healthy for your heart and improves teeth and gum health. It maximizes circulation, relieves achy joints and makes your hair and nails strong and healthy. It is a powerful antioxidant to protect your body against free radicals. It can help get rid of various skin conditions such as psoriasis, eczema and dermatitis. It also softens your skin when used topically, plus can actually help with acne because it kills bacteria. It raises good levels and lowers bad levels of cholesterol. What’s not to like?
Quick Tip! If you enjoy hot cereal for breakfast such as oatmeal, malt-o-meal, etc., try plopping a spoonful of coconut oil on top while it’s hot and stir in till melted. I stir some cinnamon into the mix, also. Yum!
